The Basque Government sponsors a university chair in Quebec with the Lehendakari Agirre Center

The Basque Minister for Culture, Bingen Zupiria, and the former Lehendakari Juan José Ibarretxe, as director of the Agirre Lehendakaria Center (ALC) for Social and Political Sciences, have subscribed an agreement with McGill University of Montreal in Quebec to create a chair in Basque Studies. The agreement has been reached during a trip to Canada by the Basque Government‘s Minister for Culture, the former Basque First Minister, and the director of the Etxepare Institute, Ana Larraza.



More than 100 airlines gather in Bilbao to decide upon their future European routes

The foremost companies in the European aviation industry have gathered in Bilbao for their Routes Europe 2018 summit on route development for planning and negotiating new air services in the region. The event has been attended by 1,200 delegates that have held 4,800 meetings, with a wide range of representatives from over 100 flagship, regional and low-cost airlines from all corners of the world, together with managers from 300 airports and 50 tourist authorities from the cities where they are headquartered.

The Lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, has taken part in the planting of a sapling of the "Ginkgo Biloba (Maidenhead) tree, bearer of hope" in Gernika, in a ceremony designed to convey "a strong statement against war and in favour of world peace". The event has been attended by, among other personalities, the Mayor of Gernika, José María Gorroño, and the Mayor of Hiroshima, Kazumi Matsui.
