Answering a Geroa Bai question during the plenary session of the autonomous Parliament, Barkos lamented "the opportunities that could have been generated in all those lost years" when Navarra was not part of the Euroregion, "lost opportunities with a clear political responsibility".

According to the head of the autonomous government, Navarra's officially joining the Euroregion was "an important milestone", a "turning point" on which they had "been working and are going to continue working" to "defend the general interest of Navarra, its socio-economic development and greater integration with greater power, capacity and ambition in Europe".
