The EAJ-PNV Executive Committee expresses its concern, first and foremost, regarding the United States' unilateral breach of international law with its incursion into Venezuela and the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in the absence, so far, of independent and transparent confirmation of the facts.

The Executive Committee emphasizes that a return to the multilateral world order is the most effective way to protect world peace. Therefore, it demands transparency and respect for international law from the United States government.

The Executive Committee recalls that the last Venezuelan presidential elections of July 28, 2014, which allowed Nicolás Maduro to remain in power, were rigged and that Edmundo González Urrutia received more support. This was declared by both the United Nations Panel of Experts and the Carter Center.

The Basque National Party (EAJ-PNV) hopes that Venezuela can begin a political transition to a democratic regime that respects civil liberties and human rights, and addresses the population's need for peace and reconciliation. To this end, it is essential to restore the voice of Venezuelans as soon as possible, with the necessary democratic guarantees.
